Luis Velarde
Dr. Luis Velarde (Ph. D. University of
Oregon, 2003) specializes in Latino American Literature
and culture, Chicano Studies, and Ethnic Studies. Dr. Velarde's
main scholarly interests include American Studies, modernism,
literary and cultural theory, critical theory, film studies
and sexuality studies.
Dr. Velarde has published in his field
of interest and is currently working on a book-length study
of contemporary Latino literature, which examines how the
discourses of class, gender, race, and ethnicity, which
serve to negotiate shifting positions of Latino identity
against the backdrop of a post identity in a postmodern
America, are now complicated by transnational discourses.
In addition to Latino Studies, Dr. Velarde
teaches a variety of courses in the literature program.
