Master's Comprehensive Examination

Candidates for all of the master's degrees in English (except for candidates for the master's degree in English as a second language who chose Option I or Option II) must pass the master's comprehensive examination. This examination is administered by the graduate committee of the Department of English and is given each February, June, and October (usually on the third Friday of
the month).

The examination is given in the Technical Writing Lab on the third floor of the Auditorium Building (Room 307), and is held from 8:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.

The comprehensive examination may be taken twice. If the candidate fails the examination on both occasions, then permission for any retake of the examination must be granted by the graduate committee.

Students must register for this examination at least 24 hours in advance of the examination. If you have registered for the examination and cannot take it for any reason, you must cancel your registration at least 24 hours in advance of the examination. Failure to do so will result in a "take" (i.e., a grade of "fail") of the examination.

To register for the examination and to get copies of examination materials (including sample copies of the examination), contact:
