Tutorships
Graduate students in the Department of English may apply
to teach ENGL 1200 (Developmental Writing) or to work as
a THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) Tutor if they
have met the following requirements:
- Bachelor of Arts in English
- Minimum score in the 50th percentile (score of 470)
on the verbal portion of the GRE
- Complete Academic
Assistantship application
- Full-time status as a graduate student in the Department
of English
Students who choose to pursue this option gain a variety
of experience working with at-risk and/or international
students by:
- Tutoring students
- Helping students pass the THEA exam
- Preparing writing prompts
- Grading essays
- Offering review sessions
- Preparing handouts
- Enforcing course policies
