Requirements
Undergraduate students majoring in English must meet the
following degree requirements:
Hours Required and General/ College
of Arts and
Sciences Requirements:
A minimum of 128 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced,
and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor
of Arts degree as specified in the "General
University Requirements" in the Academics section
of the Undergraduate
Catalog and the College of Arts and Sciences requirements.
Major Requirements:
Total of 36 semester hours of credit, 15 of which are
• ENGL 1310
or 1313 (College
Writing I)
• ENGL 1320
or 1323 (College
Writing II) or
ENGL 2700:
Introduction to Technical Writing
• Two courses chosen from
ENGL
2210: World Literature I
ENGL
2220: World Literature II
ENGL
2322: British Literature to 1780
ENGL
2323: British Literature 1780 to present
ENGL
2327: American Literature to 1870
ENGL
2328: American Literature 1870 to present
• ENGL 3000:
Introduction to Literary Analysis and Interpretation Skills–
should be taken in the first 15 hours of English
course work
Students majoring in English must maintain a minimum grade
of C in each English/linguistics course applied toward the
Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
